Letter to the editor: History shows value of vaccines

Posted

After reading The Chronicle’s “Look Back in Time” entry from Sept. 20, 1955, I wonder how many of the “Make America Healthy Again” Robert Kennedy Jr. supporters noticed the paragraph about Centralia High School football coach Harold Schrupp contacting polio.

According to The Chronicle’s records, he was the county’s 11th polio victim of the year and in the hospital. Even football was cancelled for a week.

For anti-vaxers, perhaps they should check the Lewis County Health Department and see how many cases have been reported in recent years.

Could that be due to polio vaccines? I can remember friends in iron lungs, and I made sure I got my polio vaccination.

For those who refuse to believe in the polio vaccine, or other vaccinations, good luck, and stay healthy.
