Your recent “Eye in the Sky” article seems to imply, according to Centralia Police Department Commander David Clary, that the use of drones is being conducted under FAA part 107.
I hope the department is complying with the regulations limiting part 107 operation, in order to avoid regulatory fines that will be passed on to taxpayers such as myself.
The FAA has a flowchart that they should be aware of titled “Flow Chart for Processing Public Safety Waiver Requests,” which states “you must comply with the applicable Title 14 CFR flight rules or seek a waiver or exemption to those reqs you seek relief from.”
