My name is Gwynivere Wright.
I am a Chehalis resident and Centralia College student who is actively interested in this community’s wellbeing.
I am writing this letter today to tell you why I am voting for Jessie Carver for election to the Chehalis City Council, and why you should consider voting for her as well. My reasons for voting for Jessie are many, but for the sake of brevity, here are just a few.
Her experience as an attorney in the social services sector has given her firsthand insight into advocating for others and ensuring their needs are met with dignity.
As a community organizer, she has brought diverse groups together to achieve common goals that benefit everyone, and she is committed to using these skills to benefit all Chehalis residents.
She is also committed to fulfilling her role on city council with integrity and honesty. I believe that Jessie is a truly good person who will genuinely look out for the residents of Chehalis and avoid using the power vested in the city council to make self-interested decisions.
Jessie believes removing barriers to responsible housing development will make Chehalis a place where working families can afford to live, grow and see the next generation thrive.
She also wants to improve our parks. Parks are critical points of social interaction and exposure to nature for young families with children. If we want Chehalis to be a city where families thrive, we need parks that are clean, safe, and well-maintained.
Most importantly — in my opinion, at least — Jessie wants to find ways to resolve the issue of homelessness that is affecting Chehalis right now. This issue is very important to her, and she wants to address it so everyone has a safe place to live and raise their children.
She believes that collaborating with community partners will help us understand why people become homeless and lead to effective solutions, not just for getting them off the street but for preventing them from getting to that point in the first place.
The last thing I will say is this: as a parent of a kindergartener, she deeply understands the challenges of raising a family today and wants to ensure Chehalis is a city where every family feels heard and supported with compassion and dignity. She knows the hurdles that parents have to jump through and the tough decisions that need to be made when raising a family in uncertain times, and she is actively invested in helping to lessen that burden.
It is time that we add her voice to the city government so that she can speak on our behalf. I urge you to vote for Jessie Carver for Chehalis City Council on Nov. 4.
