Letter to the editor: Mossyrock levy passage ensures survival of valuable programs

Posted

I am writing to express my strong support for the upcoming Mossyrock  School District maintenance and operations levy.

This levy is essential to ensuring that our students continue to have access to valuable extracurricular programs, including sports, music, transportation and the dedicated staff who make these opportunities possible.

Extracurricular activities are more than just pastimes — they help shape well rounded individuals, teach teamwork and discipline, and provide students  with a sense of belonging and school pride.

Sports programs give young athletes a chance to develop leadership skills, stay active and compete at a  high level, while music and band programs foster creativity, critical thinking and a lifelong appreciation for the arts.

Without funding for these programs, we risk depriving our students of opportunities that enrich their education and prepare them for future success.

Additionally, the levy supports transportation, ensuring that students can safely travel to and from activities. It also provides funding for essential staff such as coaches, band directors and athletic directors — mentors who inspire and guide our students both on and off the field.

It also helps pay for a newly created position at the school, the dean of students. This position greatly enhances the experiences of the students during their time in the school  district.

This levy is not a new tax but a renewal of the community’s ongoing commitment to our children. By voting “yes,” we are investing in the future of Mossyrock, strengthening our schools and ensuring that every student has the opportunity to thrive.

All five of our children benefited from the education they received at the Mossyrock School District. They went on to higher education and various careers and are now successful and thriving, productive citizens with their own families. The Mossyrock School District played a big role in that.

I urge you to support the Mossyrock School District by voting in favor of the levy. Our students, families and community will all benefit from this  continued investment in education and extracurricular excellence.
