Letter to the editor: Reagan’s rendezvous with destiny has arrived — choose wisely this November

Sheryl Isaacson’s recent letter to the editor was great, and I’d like to add some more context.

I served 10 years on the East German-Czech borders and saw Russia at its zenith and its final fall. On the border, I watched as people were shot, taken down by dogs and dragged back by border guards into a country just because they wanted to leave.

Hillary Clinton said, “people need to be deprogrammed.”

Reeducation camps? Instead of stopping riots in 2020, Democrats defunded police, which could be used as a backdoor to a national police force. The U.S. Attorney General dropped all charges against every protester from Trump’s inauguration in 2018 but arrested and charged 1,400 for Jan. 6. None were granted a change of venue and some still await trial. Political hostages?

A speedy trial is a constitutional right.  The U.S. Supreme Court ruled 70 days is reasonable. This is how police states start.

Was COVID-19 a dry run? Much has been exposed as misinformation, lies and bad science. Truth in the hands of manipulators is fungible.

Vice President Kamala Harris is manipulating all her previous positions to what she is not. State governments tried to keep Trump and Kennedy off the ballot and camouflaged an Orwellian Ministry of Truth under the disinformation governance board.

The FBI is accused of using the FISA Act to warrantlessly monitor texts and emails of private citizens. For unknown reasons, U.S.  Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp-Perez abstained on an amendment mandating search warrants prior to searching American citizens’ personal communications under the renewed FISA Act. It failed 212-212.

She had an opportunity to cast the decisive vote for the rule of law and refused to pick a side.

Justice Ketanji Brown-Jackson said, “the First Amendment is hamstringing the government.”

Local zoning laws, building codes and fees add to finished costs of homes, but politicians blame greedy builders.

Plattenbau in the old East Germany were government built and controlled apartments with rent control designed to fix housing shortages they created. Our government gives subsidies to builders for more apartment complexes while they tell us we have a housing shortage, one they created.

Millions of illegal crossings have occurred since 2020 and 1.3 million with adjudicated removal orders are still here but the border is closed.

In 1988, Gorbachev visited a stocked grocery store in Houston and told his entourage, “if the Russian people saw the conditions of U.S. supermarkets, there would be a revolution.”

It happened one year later.

Governments don’t create wealth, they only steal it. One in 17 people works for the government. MarketWatch reported 25% of all jobs created in 2023 were in government. When the government controls where you work, live, shop and how you get there, they control you.

What are your options when you lose those freedoms?

Yuri Brezmenov said, “the U.S. is in decline. Those praising the administrative state will disappear first because they are the most dangerous after they learn they will not be part of the ruling class. They are the useful idiots.”

These were Russian tactics in East Germany. Reagan’s rendezvous with destiny has arrived —  choose wisely this November.
