Letter to the editor: Support me for Lewis County PUD commissioner

Posted

My name is Jilona Speer, and I am excited to announce my candidacy for Lewis County Public Utility District commissioner for District 2. My family and I have proudly called Lewis County our home, where we raised our three boys. It’s a community that has given us much, we’ve worked with, and we’ve grown with. I want to continue to give back by representing the hardworking families of District 2.

One of the critical issues facing our community is the responsible implementation of renewable energy, particularly in light of Initiative 937. This initiative mandates that energy companies invest in renewable sources, with a requirement that 15% of their load must come from renewables. As someone who understands the daily struggles of making ends meet, I am committed to ensuring that these changes are made in a fiscally responsible manner to keep utility rates affordable for all families in Lewis County.

Effective implementation of renewable energy initiatives requires thorough research and careful planning. If elected, I will prioritize conducting comprehensive studies, and meeting state requirements while also addressing the specific needs of our community. I am prepared to advocate for policies that benefit both the environment and our residents’ financial well-being.

Your vote for me is a vote for a dedicated representative who will listen to and amplify the voices of our community. Together, we can ensure that Lewis County continues to thrive while meeting our energy needs sustainably.

Thank you for considering my candidacy. I look forward to earning your support and the opportunity to serve you as PUD Commissioner for District 2.
