My concern is for the corner of Ellsbury Street and Mellen Street in Centralia, the northeast corner across from Subway.
For the last three summers, I’ve made phone calls to the Washington state Department of Transportation and also to the City of Centralia. I was hoping someone could find out why the area highlighted in yellow is never maintained.
Two weeks ago, employees from the City of Centralia were working the area. and I waited to see if they were going to cut down the grass and weeds.
The grass grows very tall and blocks the view of the crosswalk, which is a very active area because the metro park on the other side of the highway.
All the other areas are cut down and look nice except in this most important area. I fear a person may be pushing a stroller and walk out to cross and get hit by a car heading west on a red light. Drivers cannot see people waiting at the crosswalk.
Also, the later the summer gets, the dryer the grass gets, and with cars stopping there, it increases the chance of fire.
I just don’t understand why it is ignored. Who is responsible and what is their justification for not taking care of the area year after year?
