I hold to the old fashioned notion that someone who serves at a cabinet level position in the executive branch of the federal government of the United States should be pretty smart.
No, they don't have to be Alexander Hamillton or George Marshall. They don't have to know about astrophysics.
But they sure should know about the most fundamental principle — the bedrock — of our democratic form of government.
MAGA, who insults everyone who opposes them, says they feel insulted by the "elite" in America. Well, boo hoo.
Call me an elitist.
Under questioning from Sen. Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire, pretty girl Secretary of Homeland Security and former South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem flunked a basic civics test. She could not provide a correct answer to Hassan's question, "What is habeas corpus?"
Her answer was 180 degrees off. She said, “habeas corpus is a constitutional right that the president has to be able to remove people from this country.”
Hassan replied, “excuse me, that is incorrect.”
Habeas corpus, around since at least the Magna Carta (1215) is exactly the opposite. First initiated to prevent arbitrary arrests by the king and his henchmen, this fundamental precept of our Constitution is the basis for the right of due process. The government (or the president) cannot detain people without a provable reason. It is the exact opposite of Noem's reply.
She shows up for TV in her SWAT uniform or her ICE uniform or her cutesy cowboy hat. Like most of King Donald's cabinet, she is a performance artist.
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. says, "People shouldn't take medical advice from me." Duh. That is his job. But, no, people shouldn't listen to medical advice from RFK Jr., who takes his grandchildren swimming in a sewage contaminated creek.
Across Trump's Cabinet. Dumb as a box of rocks.
Oh yeah, Lewis County MAGA. Watch the prices go up at Walmart, Harbor Freight and Home Depot and everywhere else when damage from the Trump tariffs kicks in. You believed him when he said China pays the tariffs despite myself and hundreds of others telling you the truth. Now Trump tells Walmart to eat his tariffs. So proclaims the great businessman who filed for bankruptcy four times.
Not making America great again. Way too much stupid.
And I am confused. Is it Joe Biden the genius criminal mastermind of the Biden Crime Family or is it Joe Biden the brain wasted old man who can't remember how to tie his shoes? Which is it?
It is neither. It is Joe Biden who wisely supported Ukraine, restored our vital alliances and who, a short four months ago, delivered to Trump an economy that the Wall Street Journal called, "the envy of the world."
