Letter to the editor: Understand the police stand against you

Posted

John Braun’s last commentary needs some amplification.

Students, parents, at no time are you required to speak to police. Not on school grounds, not anywhere, for any reason.

If police want to question you, you are a suspect of a crime. They are building probable cause to arrest you at all times. They can and will lie to you. This is what passes for honor among police. Remember that. Not one thing they say to you has truth value. Not one word.

Assume anything police say to you is a lie. Why? Because you’ll have no way to know otherwise.

Assert your fourth, fifth and sixth amendment rights. Give no consent to searches, remain silent, demand counsel. Say nothing, even in the presence of counsel. Let the lawyer speak, and only your lawyer.

You must absolutely understand the police stand against you. Their goal is to imprison you. Period. They are not your friends. They are not there to help you. Nothing you can ever say will make them release you.

If you doubt these words, ask a cop’s kids what their cop parents teach them about talking to police. Ask a lawyer’s kids.
