Bruce Peterson’s letter in response to my observations on immigration requires a reply.
He says I “seem to favor” uncontrolled, illegal immigration, such as our nation has experienced these last four years.
I re-read my letter and nothing therein suggests the sort.
The uncontrolled flood of illegal immigration of the last four years is not good. We need to control immigration. But it is morally and practically wrong to categorically oppose immigrants.
We need them.
And in particular we need the highly skilled immigrants at issue in my letter.
The immigrants to our country who I have met, although generally not highly skilled such as those the visa program at issue targets, are very much needed and in my experience are hard working, family oriented and industrious.
They are welcome here, and will be assimilated within one generation. We are better off for them.
