Letter writer Mr. Kimbrel would like some answers, so here’s a few:
What do I stand for? Generally, the same sort of things Republicans used to stand for. Truth. Justice. The American way. You understand me. When your president speaks, he is lying. He is openly using my government to prosecute political rivals. Free enterprise has no meaning whatsoever to Trump. Witness his attempts to control markets with tariffs.
What do I stand for? Due process of law. Do I really need to list examples of what Trump is doing? ICE, anyone? Explain how ICE is in any meaningful way different from the Gestapo. Has anyone, anywhere, seen a scrap of actual evidence to support the extrajudicial killings on the high seas Trump ordered? Republicans gave up their claim to care about due process of law when their leader pardoned the hundreds of you who were convicted of trying to overthrow my government on Jan. 6, 2021.
What do I stand for? Personal courage. I don’t fear the others, the immigrants, the different. I refuse to fear my fellow citizens to the point where I think I need to arm myself to defend against them.
Chronicle owner and Publisher Chad Taylor knows perfectly well why he should keep his opinions to himself in his own paper. Sure, he publishes opposing views. At least, he publishes the ones his editor selects for publication. Who signs The Chronicle editor’s paycheck? It’s the power imbalance, you see. Chad gets to censor our views, but no one gets to censor Chad’s. That’s the problem with Chad opining in his own publication.
Something you may have forgotten: the success or failure of our country isn’t dependent on one man, as much as you’d like it to be. Trump will fail. It’s all he knows. The country will remain, though it’ll take years and plenty of national treasure to undo the damage caused by the short sightedness of those who elected him.
By the way, how are you liking your grocery bill? Trump said he was going to fix that by now. You guys are in charge everywhere in government. What gives?
There’s a few answers for you, Mike.
