Letter to the editor: When can we expect fairness?

Posted

In response to Mike Kimbrel’s letter on Sept. 14, I must take issue with his biased opinion that Democrats don’t just tax the rich, they tax everybody.

In a democracy, everyone is responsible for contributing to the wellbeing of the country according to their means. If that were the unjiggered reality, the country would have much less than $38 trillion in debt.

That we don’t is owing to both Democrats and Republicans being bought and paid for by billionaires who have their own agenda. If they want to get elected, they need lots of capital. If they want to get reelected, they have had to meet their donors’ wishes.

The other part of the unequal equation results from wealthy people being able to afford the benefit of expensive legal and economic expertise from lawyers and accountants who can show them the ways to evade paying their fair share for supporting the country that has given them the advantages working people can’t afford to enjoy.

Mr. Kimbrel, your complaint is tantamount to carrying water for not only your political brethren, but Democrats as well, all part of a the corrupt congress you decry, a Congress that is bereft of ethics and morality.

When can we expect fairness, Mr. Kimbrel?
