How can Trump and MAGA supporters not see the disturbing truth that their movement is embracing fascism? It is as if they are desecrating the sacrifices of the brave World War II veterans who fought and died to defeat the very tyranny they now seem to be embracing.
Our fathers, mothers and grandparents endured unspeakable loss to ensure that future generations would never fall prey to the poison of authoritarian rule.
What makes today’s willful ignorance so much worse is that history has already shown us the devastating consequences of following despots like Hitler and Mussolini. We cannot pretend we do not know better. To ignore these lessons is not just careless. It is dangerous.
It is not too late. We can still resist the reign of terror that Trump seeks to impose on our nation. In this case, being “woke” is not an insult. It is a duty. To be awake means to see clearly the atrocities of history, to learn from them, and to ensure they never happen again.
The future of our democracy depends on whether we have the courage to wake up now and resist before it is too late.
