Lewis and Thurston county unemployment rates fall in July

The Washington state Employment Security Department (ESD) recently released the unemployment rates for July 2026, showing that unemployment decreased in both Lewis and Thurston counties from June.

Specifically, Lewis County’s unemployment rate decreased from 5.4% in June to 4.6% in July, while Thurston County saw its unemployment rate fall from 4.1% to 3.5%.

Aside from Pierce County remaining the same at 5.4%, all other counties in the region saw a decrease in their unemployment rates.



In Skamania County, the unemployment rate fell from 4.1% to 3.3%; there was a .8% decrease in Grays Harbor County from 5.2% to 4.4%; Pacific County fell from 6.2% to 4.7%; Wahkiakum County dropped from 6.5% to 5.9%; in Clark County, the rate decreased from 4.4% to 3.9%; and Cowlitz County fell from 5.0% in May to 4.3% in June.

Across Washington state, the unemployment rate decreased from 5.2% in June to 5.0% in July.
