Lewis County Auditor’s Office reminds voters to mail ballots on time

In the run-up to the Nov. 7 election, the Lewis County Auditor’s Office wants to remind registered voters to take the steps necessary to ensure their ballots get counted.

While ballots in Washington don’t need a stamp, they must be postmarked by election day. The United States Postal Service recommends that ballots should be mailed at least seven days before the election day to account for unforeseen circumstances and ensure the envelope is postmarked in time.

According to a news release from the auditor’s office, ballots returned to the post office on election day should be brought to a postal clerk at the post office. Voters can also utilize the 14 ballot drop boxes throughout the county. Ballots must be dropped in the drop box by 8 p.m. on election day. To find a ballot box, go to elections.lewiscountywa.gov.

Registered voters should have received their ballot by Oct. 27. If you have not yet received a ballot, the auditor’s office recommends visiting votewa.gov and selecting “my ballot,” calling 360-740-1278 or visiting 351 NW North St., Chehalis, to track your ballot or update your registration.

This year, the auditor’s office mailed 54,615 ballots to Lewis County residents.
