The Lewis County Beekeepers’ Association (LCBA) is accepting applications for its 2026-2027 youth scholarships.
Each year, LCBA awards two scholarships to Lewis County youths, according to a news release.
Scholarship includes the Winter Beginning Beekeeping Course, membership in LCBA, a mentor, all basic equipment and bees, everything a new beekeeper needs for a successful year of beekeeping.
Generally, the student is assigned their mentor early in the year. All equipment, including the hive, protective gear, smoker and other tools, will be purchased with the mentor. In April, the bees arrive. The mentor will help hive the bees and will continue to support the student throughout the year, the release stated.
Expectations are that the student will attend the winter course, held at Centralia College on six Saturday mornings in January and February 2026. Students are also expected to attend monthly meetings, which occur on the second Wednesday evening of each month at Centralia College.
