After capturing their second consecutive 2B State Championship in Yakima, the Adna High School softball team was recognized by the Lewis County Commissioners during a ceremony Tuesday morning.

“This is back-to-back championships, as well, for Adna fastpitch,” Lewis County Commissioner Scott Brummer said Tuesday. “And with lots of underclassmen in this group, maybe we’ll see a three-peat, right ladies? Excellent job.”

The team finished off its championship season with a 13-5 win over Warden at the Gateway Sports Complex in Yakima on Saturday, May 25. During the game, Ava Simms allowed one run in the first four innings and five overall, and Kendall Humphrey gave the Pirates the lead with a three-run home run in the third.

In addition to being Adna’s second straight state championship, it’s the Pirates’ third in the last four state tournaments, and the 11th in school history, according to the WIAA website.

During the meeting, the commissioners also recognized Adna’s Karsyn Freeman, who captured her second consecutive Class 2B State Championship in discus with a personal record toss of 142 feet, 5 inches during the state track and field championships in Yakima on May 25.

“Congratulations to all of you,” Brummer said. “I couldn’t throw a baseball 142 feet. That’s impressive.”
