The Lewis County commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to appoint Greg Rohr to serve the remainder of Carol Brock’s term on the Lewis-Mason-Thurston Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council.

Brock was removed from the council by the board on Aug. 28 following a controversial policy restricting prayer and discussion of politics at Lewis County senior centers. When announcing a request for applications, Lewis County said in a news release that board members ““manage, monitor, plan, fund, coordinate and advocate for services and programs that serve the elderly and younger disabled persons.”

Board members are assigned committees and responsibilities such as health promotion, small-project support and public information.

Members of the Lewis-Mason-Thurston Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council are appointed by the county commissioners of their respective counties.

The position is unpaid, though members receive reimbursement for travel expenses for the monthly meeting.

Rohr, who lives in Toledo, will serve the remainder of Brock’s term, which expires on Dec. 31, 2024.
