The Lewis County Democrats are renting out the Centralia Rollerdrome next month to offer two hours of skating fun to show support for local schools.
The event, titled “Let’s Roll for Schools,” is a free skate party for all ages and will double as a school supply drive looking to collect items for classrooms, teachers and low-income students alike.
It’s the first event of its kind put on by the local chapter of the Democratic Party. In addition to skating and supply donations, party members will also offer voter registration help for adults.
According to the Lewis County Democrats Chair Zac Ekstein, the event is meant to support local teachers and young families. As the event announcement states, the free skate event provides a “family-friendly atmosphere with built-in childcare.”
Eckstein added that the event is also meant to offer support to teachers and students, especially those from low-income backgrounds.
The local Democrats ask that attendees bring supplies to donate.
Donations for teachers and classrooms include supplies such as pencils, crayons, paper products, glue, tape, folders and sanitary supplies such as tissues and disinfecting wipes.
Supplies needed for students include backpacks, lunch boxes, socks, underwear, deodorant and other hygiene supplies such as soap or toothbrushes as well as healthy snacks and gift cards to local grocery stores.
