Depending on funding, a new substation of the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office could be completed and operational by early 2023, the Lewis County announced in a news release on Friday.
The Lewis County Board of Commissioners agreed Wednesday to begin obtaining the necessary permits and environmental review for the substation, which would be built between Glenoma and Randle at 8901 U.S. Highway 12.
The property is currently used by Lewis County Public Works.
The current plan is to construct a 36-by-48 foot, four-bay, three-door vehicle storage facility alongside a 24-by-60 foot double wide mobile home currently used as office space for county Public Works engineers.
Once the substation is operational, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office will provide support staff for the substation several days a week, according to a news release. Other county departments and staff could also use office space at the facility.
“It will place a sheriff’s footprint in the east end of the county, providing law enforcement resources and equipment,” Lewis County Sheriff Rob Snaza said of the substation in a prepared statement. “It will be a place for citizens to address public safety concerns with deputies, obtain law enforcement permits and to receive associated paperwork.”
