Lewis County looks to fill two positions on Noxious Weed Control Board

Lewis County Weed Control is continuing the battle against noxious weeds throughout the county — and is asking for the community’s help.

According to a Lewis County news release, the department includes three staff members tasked with reducing the spread of noxious weeds. This time of year, the crew is focused on eliminating knotweed, which can take multiple years of treatment.

“This plant is a major concern in the area, and is extremely invasive in waterways,” Noxious Weed Control Program Coordinator Charles Edmonson said in the release. “Purple loosestrife is another one that we’re focusing on at this time of year and one that we especially want local landowners to report.”

And you can get in on the fight, too.

Residents can report noxious weeds at https://tinyurl.com/h3mk5zse, with reports reviewed on a biweekly basis. If you prefer to take matters into your own hands, the Lewis County Noxious Weed Control Board offers a Stewardship Incentive Program, which provides mini-grants to homeowners to battle noxious weeds on private property.

And if serving on the Weed Control Board is more your speed, two seats will open at the end of the year. The volunteer positions serve four-year terms, and applications are due Monday, Oct. 30.

Applications are available at https://tinyurl.com/mryuc954 or in person at the Lewis County Noxious Weed Control Board office, located at 19 SW Cascade Ave. in Chehalis.
