Lewis County Seeks Applicants for Various Volunteer Boards

Posted

The Lewis County commissioners are looking to fill vacancies on three volunteer committees, including the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC), Public Facilities District and East Lewis County Public Development Authority, according to a news release this week.

The LTAC helps the Board of County Commissioners determine how to best allocate the lodging tax funds the county receives when consumers stay in hotels, motels, rooming houses, private campgrounds, RV parks and similar facilities in the unincorporated parts of the county. The committee typically meets a few times a year, most frequently in late summer and fall.

LTAC is made up of an equal number of individuals who represent businesses required to collect lodging taxes and entities eligible to use the lodging tax grant funding. The current vacancy must be filled by someone who represents a business required to collect lodging taxes.

The Public Facilities District was formed in August of 2007 to help create a sports complex at Fort Borst Park in Centralia. The venture is a joint partnership between the City of Centralia, the Centralia School District and the board, which oversees the Northwest Sports Hub complex, according to the release. The group leases the building to a private entity for management and operation.

The board includes five voting members and one non-voting member, meets in Chehalis at 10 a.m. the second Tuesday of each month.

The county created the East Lewis County Public Development Authority in May 1996 to promote small business and light industrial development in East Lewis County. The authority oversees and operates the Packwood Business Park, and leases its buildings to various tenants.

To apply for the vacancies, submit an application and a letter of interest to Clerk of the Board Rieva Lester in the mail to 351 NW North St., Chehalis, WA 98532; email at committees@lewiscountywa.gov with include the committee name in the subject line; or in person at the commissioners’ office in room 210 of the historic courthouse at the same address.

The application packets, which include an application and a sample letter of interest, can be found under “BOCC News” on the bottom right-hand side of the commissioners’ web page at https://lewiscountywa.gov/offices/commissioners/.

Applications are due by 3 p.m. Thursday, March 9.
