Lewis County Unemployment Rate Falls in September

Lewis County’s unemployment rate fell in September, declining by 0.7% from August’s 5.4% to 4.7%, according to new data released by the Washington state Employment Security Department.

The unemployment rate almost fell back to its July level of 4.6%.

The fall in the unemployment rate was driven by a decline in the number of unemployed individuals in Lewis County, as the number of employed people fell slightly.



The number of unemployed people fell by 259, from 1,904 in August to 1,645 people in September, a decrease of about 13.6%.

At the same time, the number of employed individuals fell by 70 people, from 33,236 in August to 33,166 in September, a decline of about 0.21%.

Elsewhere, Grays Harbor and Wahkiakum counties also saw their unemployment rates fall from August to September by 0.7%, from 6.5% to 5.8% and 6.4% to 5.7%, respectively. Thurston and Cowlitz counties both saw their unemployment rates fall by 0.6%, from 4.4% to 3.8% and 5.3% and 4.7%, respectively. In Pacific County, the unemployment rate rose from 6.4% in August to 6.8% in September, an increase of 0.4%.
