An 87-year-old woman was hospitalized Friday following a single-vehicle collision on Interstate 5 near Napavine, according to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol (WSP).

Fern E. Fuchs, of Silver Creek, was driving a 2013 Subaru Forester northbound near milepost 70 at about 4 a.m. Friday when her SUV exited the roadway to the left and struck the barrier before crossing back across all lanes of traffic.

The Subaru then struck the guardrail on the right shoulder of the road.

Troopers said Fuchs was wearing a seat belt. She was transported to Providence Centralia Hospital with undisclosed injuries.

WSP indicated no drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident and listed the cause of the collision as “speeds too fast.”

Fuchs was the lone occupant of the SUV, which was considered totaled.
