Loggers Lead Early But Fall to Mules

The Onalaska girls basketball team took a solid shot at the defending Central 2B League champs, but couldn’t quite see things through in a 42-30 loss to Wahkiakum at home on Friday.

“I'm really proud of my team's effort tonight,” Onalaska coach Alana Olson said. “We came out and played much better defense than our first two games, especially in the first half. We had some lapses in the second half where we lost shooters and they made us pay for it.”

At the end of that first half, the Loggers led the Mules 15-12 in a low-scoring affair. But while Onalaska’s offense remained at a constant rate, Wahkiakum doubled its point total in the third quarter, and then went off for 17 in the fourth to pull away.

Brooklyn Sandridge was the only Logger to finish in double figures, scoring 10 points. She also had six rebounds.

“Brooklyn Sandridge had another solid all-around game,” Olson said. “She works as hard as she can every second she's on the court. She's a great leader on the floor for a very inexperienced team.”

Kaiyah Sandridge added eight points and six boards, while Kiley Talley led the Loggers with eight rebounds.

Wahkiakum’s Reigha Niemeyer led all scorers with 17 points.

Onalaska (0-3, 0-2 C2BL) will play at Rainier next Wednesday.

“Even though we didn't get the win, we made improvements from last game,” Olson said. “And those are small successes we can build upon.”
