A Chehalis man who crashed his vehicle into a hay field on state Route 6 near Adna early Friday morning has been charged with a felony DUI.

Brandon Adam Davis, 27, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail at 6 a.m. on Friday, July 19, after a Washington State Patrol trooper found him asleep inside a passenger car at approximately 12:12 a.m. that morning, according to jail records and court documents.

He provided breath samples at approximately 12:26 a.m. on July 19, which showed his blood alcohol content was between .267 and .280, according to court documents. The legal blood alcohol content limit to drive in Washington state is .08.

Davis’ car had crashed into a hay field to the right of westbound state Route 6 near milepost 50 and was still running when the trooper arrived.

When contacted by the trooper, Davis allegedly “admitted to drinking, stating that he drank quite a bit” and “made numerous comments about how he knew he was drunk and knew he was in trouble,” according to court documents. The trooper reported smelling “the odor of intoxicants coming from Davis’ breath” and “the obvious odor of intoxicants coming from within the vehicle.”

Davis reportedly showed “poor dexterity in his fingers,” trying and failing to grab his license multiple times before getting a good enough grip on it to hand it to the trooper.

When asked to perform sobriety field tests, Davis allegedly stated, “I am drunk, sir, you got me,” and proceeded to fail the field tests.

Davis was convicted in 2016 for a vehicular assault DUI that occurred in 2015. Because of that conviction, any of Davis’ subsequent DUI offenses are automatically elevated from a misdemeanor to a class B felony.

Davis was formally charged on Tuesday, July 23, when he had his preliminary hearing in Lewis County Superior Court.

Bail is set at $75,000. Arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 1.

Davis’ conditions of release include provisions prohibiting him from consuming alcohol and from driving without an ignition interlock device.
