In a scheduled doubleheader Monday afternoon in Thurston County, the Rainier baseball team fell in back-to-back games, including a shortened second game, 12-8 and 13-5 to Kalama.

The Mountaineers struggled to get outs, as Kalama scored in every inning of a 12-8 first game win in seven innings, totaling 10 hits and taking advantage of four Rainier errors.

Gavin Owen went 2 for 4 with two RBIs with a run scored and Jake Meldrum went 1 for 2 with a 2-RBI double.

In the second game, a 13-5, sunset-shortened loss, the Mountaineers gave up 12 runs to the Chinooks in the first inning and couldn’t make up the difference in the loss.

Meldrum went 1 for 2 with a pair of RBIs to lead the way for the Mountaineers in Game 2.

Rainier takes on Toledo on the road Friday for its next game.
