Mountaineers fend off T-Wolves


The Rainier football team defended its home turf Friday, downing Morton-White Pass 56-26 in a non-league matchup.

Jake Meldrum finished 5 for 10 for 130 yards, a touchdown and an interception through the air for the Mountaineers (2-2), and also ran in two touchdowns. 

Chris Grey led Rainier with 132 yards on 16 carries, Jayden Alegarbes had 85 yards and a touchdown, and Dorien Cano had 45 yards and a score.

Hunter Howell took four runs for 24 yards and a touchdown, and also grabbed two catches for 49 yards, while Josh Meldrum caught three balls for 81 yards.

The Mountaineers will host Ilwaco in their SWW 2B West opener next Friday, while the Timberwolves (1-3) will face Pe Ell-Willapa Valley in SWW 2B North division play in Pe Ell.
