Holding a 50-17 lead at the half, the Morton-White Pass boys basketball team was able to unload its bench in the second half and take home a dominant, 73-42 league win over Onalaska on the road Tuesday night.
“We talked about coming out strong and establishing ourselves right away and we were able to do that,” Timberwolves coach Chad Cramer said.
The T-Wolves finished with 10 players in the scorebook, led by Josh Salguero and Hunter Hazen’s 17 points a piece. Jake Cournyer rounded out the double figure scorers for MWP.
“We got everybody involved early,” Cramer said. “We tried to stay balanced. Second half we got a lot of guys playing time and got almost everyone a basket. Probably could’ve played with a little more intensity in the first couple of minutes in the second half, but we opened it up in the first half and accomplished our gameplan.
“Overall it’s a road win in league, and we’ll take it anytime we can.”
On the other end, the Loggers struggled to keep up with a more-experienced MWP team. Nick Rushton led Ony with 11 points as the only double-digit scorer, but Rylan McGraw and Ben Russon both had nine for the Loggers.
“We could not handle the size of Salguero down low and the transition layups from Hazen,” Loggers coach Brent Wood said. “I told the boys in the locker room after the game that this is what it’s like to actually come out and play a good team. And if we can’t do the little things defensively or offensively, especially being undersized, then we have no shot at being a good team. We’re young and don’t understand that yet but I think we are on the right track.”
The Timberwolves play Kalama in Morton on Thursday while the Loggers take on Toutle Lake.
