In a game that was never close, the Napavine softball team dispatched Wahkiakum after a long drive to Cathlamet in three innings Monday afternoon, 23-3.

The Tigers put all 23 runs on the board in the first two innings, with 13 coming in the first and 10 in the second. Maya Kunkel had a grand slam in her only at-bat, Taylen Evander added a double and two RBIs, Hayden Kaut went 1 for 2 with three runs scored, two RBIs and two walks drawn, and Cailyn Milton went 2 for 3 with three runs scored and a walk drawn to lead the Tiger offense.

In the circle, Lyla Kirkpatrick got the start and pitched the first two innings, allowing one hit but walking four as Wahkiakum scored three runs, with two earned. Kirkpatrick finished with four strikeouts, as well. Milton pitched the final inning, striking out two in a scoreless third.

“Lyla Kirkpatrick did a nice job pitching for us, she did a nice job in her first start,” Tigers coach Josh Fay said. “And Milton did a nice job putting the ball in play, she had patient at-bats. We took 14 walks, she was patient and waited for her pitch, once she got it she went out and hunted it.”

The Tigers return to their home field Thursday in a key Central 2B League matchup against Toledo at 4 p.m.
