Nelson helps Trojans end 3-game skid, rout Acorns

Blake Nelson’s 20 points gave Pe Ell the offensive boost it needed as the Trojans defeated Oakville 63-36 Tuesday night to halt a three-game losing streak.

Nelson scored half of his points in the first quarter as Pe Ell took an early lead and didn’t let go of it. The Trojans, who held a 10-point halftime lead, pulled away in the second half thanks to strong defense from their guards.

“We came out and executed our game plan exactly as it was drawn up. The plan was to be intense on defense and let it create our offense,” Pe Ell assistant coach Jason Phelps said.

Pe Ell (6-3, 1-0 Columbia Valley) also received some scoring help from Mo Morales’ nine points, Kohl Perkins’ seven, and six each from Pierce Edgar and Eli Mason. Wyatt Harris, Liam McGrath and Blaine Howard all scored five.

Oakville (3-6, 1-3 Columbia Valley) was held to its lowest scoring output of the season. Lewis Koser contributed a third of the Acorns’ points with a dozen, while Michael Rhoades scored eight. James Shields and Gio Rodas each logged six.

Pe Ell will welcome Wahkiakhum Thursday night, and Oakville will next take on Three Rivers Christian at home Tuesday, Jan. 13.
