Nighttime construction will begin on Harrison Avenue and Interstate 5 in August, according to a news release from the City of Centralia.

“In an effort to minimize the impacts to the traveling public and area businesses, as well as improve the safety of construction workers, the City of Centralia and the Washington State Department of Transportation will be completing transportation projects at night on these high-use corridors for the next few months,” the city stated in the release.

The City of Centralia Public Works Department will be improving the roadway on Harrison Avenue from High Street to Main Street beginning Aug. 7. The project includes the replacement and installation of median curbing, repaving the roadway, striping, permanent signing and other related work, according to the city.

Work is currently scheduled to continue through September. One lane of travel in each direction will be maintained during work hours. The city and Lakeside Industries Inc. will work with area residents and businesses to minimize impacts during construction, according to the release.

The Washington State Department of Transportation maintenance paving crews will be completing a highway preservation project on Interstate 5 beginning Aug. 3. Work will include repairing failing asphalt. Work in the Centralia area is expected to be complete by October.
