Nine people, including two children ages 3 and 6, escaped injury on Saturday following a six-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 in Chehalis, according to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol (WSP).

The crash occurred at about 11:10 a.m. in the northbound lanes near Exit 77 and involved five passenger vehicles and a semi-truck. All nine occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision, according to the memo.

Two of the vehicles, a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek and a 2017 Ford Explorer, were totaled.

Troopers cited both drivers, Dallas N. Nelson, 32, of Portland, and Hugo L. Lapie, 36, of Ridgefield.

Troopers said no drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident and listed the cause of the collision as “following too close.”

The other vehicles received reportable damage.

According to the memo, the two children were taken to Providence Centralia Hospital following the incident. The practice is a usual precaution for when children are involved in a crash.
