Nine interlocal agreements were approved by the Board of Lewis County Commissioners on Monday for the use of the Lewis County Jail.

The prisoner housing agreements were approved between the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office and the cities of Centralia, Chehalis, Napavine, Winlock, Mossyrock, Vader, Toledo, Pe Ell and Morton.

According to Jail Chief Chris Sweet, the contracts are approved on an annual basis. The only difference is a 5 percent increase that puts the bed rate at $63.39 per day for a guaranteed flat rate and increases the cost for agencies who pay a per diem rate to $69.73.

Commissioner Bobby Jackson asked Sweet to provide the rate other counties charge, stating Lewis County’s rate is lower than others. Sweet said he would provide that information at a later date. He also stated one of his priorities is to ensure that revenue continues to come in for the use of the jail facility.

Sweet thanked Carrie Breen, the administrative assistant of corrections and jail, for her work with the user agreement contracts.
