Oakville can’t recover from slow start in loss to Ocosta

A seven-run first inning was too big of a hole for the Oakville baseball team to climb out of, as the Acorns fell 9-6 to Ocosta.

Oakville got on the board first in the top half of the first thanks to a Koner Burnett RBI single and a passed ball later in the frame, but the Wildcats responded with an instant seven-spot.

The Acorns scored three in the second and one in the fourth to get back within one, but Ocosta iced the game with two in the bottom of the fifth.

Gio Rodas was excellent after entering in relief in the first, as he allowed just four hits and two unearned runs while walking zero and striking out eight in five and a third.

Burnett, Joseph Charles, Dre Kluth, and James Shields each drove in a run, while Burnett was the lone Acorn to tally multiple hits.

Oakville (1-1) will return home on Thursday to host North Beach.
