Oakville’s Sharon Grange annual spring oyster feed returns this weekend

Seafood lovers are invited to the return of the Sharon Grange’s annual spring oyster feed this weekend.

“Over 70 years ago, the members of the Sharon Grange No.  800, located across the Chehalis River Bridge from the little town of Porter, held their first oyster feed,” Sharon Grange President Debbie Hill said. “The event continued annually until the COVID-19 closures.”

Grange members did fire up the fryers and grills the previous two years to bring back the annual oyster feed, but they had to use a modified serving method due to Washington state Department of Health COVID-19 restrictions, Hill added.

Now, on Saturday, April 13, those looking to eat their fill of breaded, fried oysters will get their chance from noon to 5 p.m. (or until the oysters run out) at the Sharon Grange, located at 912 S. Bank Road north of Oakville.

The meal will be all-you-can-eat, and tickets will be sold at the door for $30 for those 13 and older, $25 for seniors 65 or older and $15 for children ages 5 to 12. Children under 5 can eat for free.

Along with fried oysters, those in attendance can also eat their filling of mashed potatoes, green beans, coleslaw, oyster stew, rolls, ham and pie for dessert. Beverages will also be provided.

Originally the Porter Grange No. 800, the Sharon Grange was founded on Aug. 3, 1923, with 22 charter members. Grange members would meet on the Porter side of the Chehalis River until the old Sharon School building became available and the grange eventually moved.

Since its founding, the Sharon Grange has been involved in multiple local, state and national activities while serving the community, including at its annual oyster dinner.
