O’Dell cruises to victory in four-team meet

Centralia’s Elyse O’Dell secured a win at Pioneer Park on Wednesday afternoon, winning the girls race by nearly 40 seconds in a meet that featured Tumwater, Rochester and Shelton.

Only the Tigers and Highclimbers had enough girls to score as a team, with the former beating the latter 25-32. Esther Hopkins and Eva Stout – a pair of sophomores – finished seventh and eighth separated by one second while Riley Meade (10th) and Anna Jones (12th) rounded out the scoring five.

Rochester’s Merecedies Dupont was second in 22:16.07 and Seraschel Aldrich was 11th. Tumwater’s Raegan Smith and Mirian Ore placed fifth and sixth, respectively.



On the boys side, the individual race was a tight one between Rochester’s Gunnar Morgan and Tumwater’s Joshua Morgan, with Gunnar triumphing over Joshua 16:14.79 to 16:15.36. The T-Birds nudged by Centralia 37-49 for the team title with the Warriors finishing with 67 points.

It marks the victory of the season for Gunnar Morgan. Tumwater had a third place performance by Zane McAferty plus underclassmen Landon Anderson and Hayden Newman finished sixth and seventh, respectively.

Centralia Ethan Weiher ran 17:48.82 to record a fourth place finish while Eli Baldwin also crossed the line in the top-10. Rochester’s Hunter Young (ninth) and Charles Stout (10th) each ran sub-19 minutes.
