In small track and field meets, it turns into a numbers game. No better case of that logic than in a seven-team league meet that featured Onalaska and Napavine held in Toutle Lake.
The numbers that determined the winner in the boys team race? Eight and five.
Behind two individual event wins apiece from Isaac Fitch and Justice Miller and two relay triumphs, the Loggers piled up 148 points to breeze past Napavine by over 20 points on Thursday night.
Fitch and Taden Miller were the stars on the track for Onalaska. The former picked up convincing wins in the open 200 and 400 while the latter claimed the 800. Both were on the victorious 1,600-meter relay alongside Case McGraw and Riley Carter plus Taden Miller and McGraw ran legs on the winning 400 relay.
Justice Miller dominated both the shot put and discus, winning by multiple feet in both. Onalsaka went 1-2-3 in the discus and had multiple guys in the top-six in both the open 100 and shot put. Cole Russon won the 3,200 for the Loggers.
Napavine’s Austin Lyons secured three individual wins, sweeping the hurdles and leaping 37 feet, 7 inches to claim the triple jump. Colin Shields picked up the victory in the javelin and Masen Jeg crossed the line first in the 1,600.
On the girls side, the Tigers finished in third place with 91 points behind Kalama (119.67) and Toutle Lake (107.33). Onalaska finished fifth with 50 points.
Emily Kang and Keira O’Neill each had an individual event win in the 100 hurdles and triple jump, respectively while Kang kicked off and O’Neill ran the third leg in Napavine’s triumphant 400 relay in 54.37 seconds. Maddie Dickinson was the runner-up in the 100 and 200 as well as anchoring the 400 relay.
Onalaska’s two wins came in the field events from Kaiyah Sandridge (javelin) and Sommer Zurinskas (high jump). Zurinskas, a freshman, cleared the high jump bar at 4-8 to clip O’Neill for the win. Halle Henricksen finished as the runner-up in shot put and discus.
