The Pe Ell girls basketball team posted its fourth consecutive win Tuesday, beating Willapa Valley 48-39 to take possession of second place in the 1B Columbia Valley League.

Karli Phelps led the way for the Trojans (10-3, 5-2 1B CVL) with 26 points, five assists and five steals, playing the whole game after multiple other Pe Ell starters got into foul trouble.

“She is just one tough player and that really showed tonight,” Pe Ell coach Kelsey Lennox said. “She was a true leader tonight.”

Peyton Zock added 14 points and a team-best seven rebounds.

Mounting foul trouble meant that at one point down the stretch, Lennox only had two starters on the court, with Madi Engel, Ruby Magruder and Ava King all playing significant minutes in the rivalry matchup.

No matter who was on the court, the Pe Ell defense did what it wanted, holding Valley to just nine points in each of the first three quarters to help build out a 10-point lead.

The Trojans are set to host Three Rivers Christian on Thursday.
