Pirates Drop First Game to 1A Knights

In its toughest defensive night of the season, the Adna boys basketball team fell to 1A King’s Way Christian Wednesday night in non-league action, 82-58.

The Pirates got off to a poor start, and had a hard time stopping the Knights’ Giovanny Evanson. The big man scored 26 points in the rout.

“That’s a really, really good team who just drilled us,” Pirates coach Luke Salme said. “They exposed some weaknesses for sure. Sometimes it can be really good to get your butt kicked in a non-league game early in the season, as long as our players take it to heart and become a bit critical and growth-minded. I’m pretty sure our guys will do that.”

The Pirates got 23 points from Braeden Salme, 18 from Seth Meister, and 11 from Eli Smith, while the Knights countered with four players with more than 15 points, and three 20-plus scoring quarters.

“We never quit,” Luke Salme said. “I’m excited to see how we respond to this.”

The Pirates get a short break for the Holidays before returning to Adna against 1B Oakville at 2:30 p.m. on December 27.
