Pirates lose close one to Eatonville

The Adna girls soccer team had its windows but couldn’t quite take full advantage, losing a close non-league game to 1A Eatonville 2-1 on Thursday.

“Things in the end were very equal on the stat lines,” Adna coach Patrick Richardson said. “We just couldn’t get the finishing touches, but they were there.”

The shot totals finished dead even, with each side putting seven on frame apiece.

The Cruisers took a 1-0 lead into halftime after scoring inside of 10 minutes, and made it 2-0 in the 58th. Adna drew one back on an own goal that the Adna coaching staff credited to Sophie Hagseth, but wouldn’t get any closer.

It’s the second straight loss to a 1A team to open the fall for the Pirates, but Richardson is far from displeased with the results.

“Our play continued to improve throughout,” he said. “We put together a very tough non-league season for a reason. We want to be pushed to get better… I am hoping that the girls continue to believe in that and it will pay off when we hit the league schedule.”

First, the Pirates will get another week of tough non-league matchups, starting with a home game against 3A Evergreen (Vancouver) at home on Monday.
