Pirates Pull Away Late in Win Over Fishermen

After a back-and-forth affair through three quarters, the No. 6 Adna boys basketball team halted the Ilwaco attack enough in the fourth to pull out a win at the Jack Q. Pearson Holiday Classic in Menlo, 66-56.

“I’m really proud of our guys for battling for 32 minutes,” Adna coach Luke Salme said. “They kept hitting tough shots and it was a tight game all the way through. Then about midway through the fourth, we won some consecutive possessions at both ends to pull away. All five starters made big plays in that stretch.”

Both the Pirates and Fishermen shot north of 50%, with three players in double figures for both teams in a balanced game.

Braeden Salme led Adna with 22 points, but was followed closely by Lane Johnson’s 17 points and Seth Meister’s 16.

Salme added five assists and Meister snatched away seven steals, as well.

The Pirates take on Willapa Valley Friday at 7:30 p.m. for their Jack Q. Pearson Holiday Classic finale.
