Pirates Squeak Past Grizzlies

Thanks to a late goal from a senior, the Adna girls soccer team took home a victory on the road against Hoquiam, 1-0, Thursday.

The Pirates (6-1, 2-0 C2BL) were deadlocked with the Grizzlies through most of the game, but senior Destiny Roller scored off a cross from Ava Humphrey in the 70th minute to give the Pirates the win.

“We continued to battle with a few good quality shots until the 70th minute when Ava Humphrey got one of those through balls from the midfield and beat the defenders, making a clean diagonal pass to Destiny who squeaked one on at the near post for the lone goal,” Pirates coach Patrick Richardson said.

The Pirates outshot the Grizzlies 7-2, but Richardson said the possession went back and forth, and it was just a matter of time until a team broke through.

“Hoquiam is no slouch with some good speed on the field,” Richardson said. “Jordanne Moon had a couple of big time saves that could have spelled a different story. It was great getting another win under our belt but now it’s back to the drawing board for next week.”

The Pirates return to league play early next week when they take on Napavine at home on Monday.
