Temporary maintenance worker Steven Vick was whacking weeds beneath two stands of trees at the poplar tree farm in Chehalis Monday. The tree species on the right are thriving better in the Chehalis River basin microclimate than the species on the left, said Chehalis utility worker Kelli Thompson. “When we go to replant some years down the road, we will phase out (the latter) variety,” she said.
