Razor clam digging on Oregon beaches ends July 15; low tides last through Wednesday

Razor clam diggers have one more low tide series to dig on Oregon’s best beaches before they close for the summer.

Clatsop County beaches (Tillamook Head north to the Columbia River jetty and Cannon Beach) will close to digging July 15 and won’t reopen until Oct. 1.

The annual closure is routine to allow young clams to settle on the beaches and begin their speedy growth.

Law enforcement officers typically write numerous citations during the closure.

The current low tide series runs through July 10 during daylight hours in the morning.

Razor clam digging will remain open along most of the rest of the coast, but is currently closed between Yachats and the Coos Bay north jetty because of elevated toxins.
