The Toledo volleyball team got back over .500 on Thursday with a four-set victory in Randle against Morton-White Pass.
The Riverhawks (3-2) quickly got out to a 2-0 lead before struggling in the third set, allowing the Timberwolves (2-3) to grab some momentum.
The struggles turned out to be an aberration, however, as they quickly bounced back to seal the match.
“They were able to settle down, talk it out, and make some adjustments that they needed to make to finish out the win,” Toledo coach Kelli Larson said.
Lyndzie Filla was a perfect 24 for 24 serving, and she also recorded eighth digs. Eighth grader Ellie Fallon had another big day, tallying 19 kills.
“She’s very confident,” Larson said, noting that she spent time playing summer ball with many of her teammates in the summer. “I think she feels comfortable with them.”
Stefa Arceo-Hansen was excellent in the back row and nearly notched a double-double, recording 10 digs and eight kills.
For the Timberwolves, Natalia Armstrong led the defensive effort with 21 digs, while Maddie Clevenger led the team offensively with seven kills.
Amy Martinez tallied five assists, while Ryelin Widenmann added three kills, two blocks and two aces and Kiera Miller added three kills and three blocks.
Brazil said that it is always hard when the team doesn’t play to its full potential, but she is confident that the Timberwolves can improve in the areas they have been struggling in.
“We really focus on keeping things positive and teamwork,” Brazil said. “Of course, that is easier when you are winning. But we will take the lessons we have learned over these last few games and turn them into something that will help us when league games start.”
Both the Riverhawks and T-Wolves have a week or so before fully diving into the bulk of their league schedule.
MWP will host Onalaksa on Tuesday, while Toledo will head to Ocosta on Monday.
