Rochester Gets Road Win at Black Hills

The Rochester baseball team jumped out to an early lead and then held on for the win Friday on the road, staving off Black Hills 5-4 in a 2A EvCo matchup.

The Warriors led 4-0 after two innings, but saw the lead cut to one run after Black Hills plated two runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth. Owen Gillaspie settled down to work around two singles in the sixth, and Ben Johnson threw a 1-2-3 seventh for the save.

“All in all, not a bad day,” Rochester coach Brad Quarnstrom said.

Tate Quarnstrom earned the win for the Warriors, giving up two runs on two hits and three walks in four innings of work. He also went 2 for 4 at the plate with a double, as did Ethan Rodriguez.

Brayden Golder gave up four earned runs in 4 ⅔ innings for the Wolves, and Truman Wimsett got the final seven outs for Black Hills without letting the deficit get any worse. Blake Klinger drove in a pair of runs.

Black Hills is set to come to Wheeler Field for a doubleheader against Centralia on Saturday, while Rochester will go to Shelton.
