Scammers pose as power company officials in Grays Harbor County

Grays Harbor Public Utility District issued a warning that individuals in the county are posing as PUD personnel in an effort to defraud residents.

PUD received messages that someone fraudulently claiming to be from the agency had visited multiple customers over the weekend, offering to replace their current meter with a more efficient version for a fee, said Communications Director Ian Cope in a news release.

"Scammers keep coming up with new ways to get people to give them money, but thankfully, so far no one has fallen for this method," said Customer Service Director Katy Moore in the news release. "If someone shows up at your door and offers to replace PUD equipment or sell you a new meter, do not under any circumstances give them money or offer your personal information."

Official PUD staff are actioned to do any such replacements, Cope said; anyone contacted by individuals offering to do so should decline to pay them and should contact customer service at 360-532-4220 to assess the veracity.
