A green resort in Silver Lake is celebrating Earth Day this month and every month.

Silver Lake Resort, at 3201 Spirit Lake Hwy., reports it recently received a Outdoor Hospitality Industries Plan-It-Green designation for its commitment to environmental stewardship.

According to a press release, green improvements at the site include:

• Recycling and composting stations for campers to dispose of food scraps and coffee grounds.

• Energy-efficient retrofits in remodeled buildings, featuring low-flow toilets and showerheads, LED lighting, motion sensors, efficient HVAC systems, and Energy Star appliances.

• Biodegradable cleaning products used throughout the resort.

• Native landscaping and pollinator gardens to reduce water usage and support biodiversity.

• Herbicide and pesticide bans throughout the 3 acre campground.

• Nature club activities for kids, designed to foster environmental learning and appreciation.

The location was founded in 1955 as housing for local loggers, and now provides lodging, as well as kayaking and fishing on the lake.
