Sirens: Animal negligence reported, but car was in 'dog mode'; Burglary at Centralia business; 'Hoodlums' back out in Chehalis

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Theft

• At 12:20 p.m. on March 15, a caller reported someone was stealing gas from a car in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue. The suspect fled the scene in a Chevrolet Cruze. An officer was not able to locate the vehicle.

• An engine was reported stolen from a “derelict car” in the 800 block of South Tower Avenue just after 8:35 p.m. on March 16.

• Two male subjects wearing hooded sweatshirts reportedly attempted to steal an electric bike from the 2400 block of Fords Prairie Avenue just after 5:50 a.m. on March 17. The suspects left the scene before officers arrived.

 

Vehicle accidents

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Johnson Road and Harrison Avenue at 2:45 p.m. on March 15.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 1300 block of Lum Road at 2:55 p.m. on March 15. The at-fault vehicle reportedly failed to yield the right of way.

• Minor injuries were reported following a two-vehicle collision in the 600 block of H Street at approximately 12:50 a.m. on March 17.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and northbound Interstate 5 at 12:30 p.m. on March 17. The collision blocked the roadway.

 

Assault

• An 18-year-old Centralia man has been referred to the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office on fourth-degree assault charges after he allegedly assaulted and threatened a man in the 1400 block of Logan Street at 3:40 p.m. on March 15.

• A 34-year-old Centralia man was arrested in the 1200 block of Belmont Avenue just before 9:55 a.m. on March 16 and was booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for fourth-degree assault, domestic violence.

• A 35-year-old Centralia woman was cited for fourth-degree assault in the 100 block of South Tower Avenue just after 2:10 a.m. on March 18.

 

Criminal trespass

• A resident in the 700 block of Marsh Avenue reported two people “came in through a window or a crawl space in the ceiling” of his residence just after 8:05 a.m. on March 15. The resident allowed responding officers into the living room of his house, “but did not want law to search anywhere else in his house.” Officers noted “the crawl space was still screwed (closed), although that was where the resident believed entry to have been made.” Officers observed “no signs of entry into the residence.”

• Three subjects were reportedly “doing drugs” in the 1000 block of Grand Avenue just after 1:35 p.m. on March 16. An officer contacted three people “smoking cigarettes” in the area.

• A homeless woman was warned for trespassing at a property in the 100 block of South Silver Street at approximately 5:20 p.m. on March 16.

• A man “who had stolen in the past and had been confrontational with the employees” at a business in the 500 block of Harrison Avenue was trespassed from the business just before 10:10 a.m. on March 17.

 

Malicious mischief

• A car window was reported broken in the 700 block of North Pearl Street just before 1 p.m. on March 16.

 

Rape

• A 42-year-old California man was arrested in the 1000 block of Eckerson Road just after 4:55 p.m. on March 16 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for third-degree rape.

 

Animal negligence/abuse

• A concerned citizen in the 700 block of Pioneer Way called at 5:50 p.m. on March 16 to report that a dog was in distress, locked inside a vehicle with the windows rolled all the way up on a hot day. Responding officers learned that the dog was not in danger as the vehicle was a Tesla and had been placed in “dog mode,” where the inside temperature of the vehicle was made comfortable for the dog without direct human intervention.

 

Disorderly conduct

• A male subject was reportedly “acting crazy” and “jumping on cars and throwing things” in the 900 block of B Street just  after 2:05 p.m. on March 17. An officer contacted the man and determined no crimes had been committed. “The male appeared to be under the influence,” according to the Centralia Police Department. He returned to his residence without issue.

 

DUI

A 32-year-old Centralia man was arrested at the intersection of North Gold and East Main streets just after 8:50 p.m. on March 17 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for DUI and third-degree driving with a suspended license. An officer had stopped him for “failing to obey a traffic control device and improper use of turn signals.”

 

Burglary

• At 6:20 a.m. on March 18, a business in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue reported it had been burglarized at about midnight. The suspect reportedly threw a rock through the business’s glass door and stole items from inside. The case is under investigation.

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Hit-and-run

  A subject reported neck pain after they were involved in a vehicle accident in the 1400 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 12:40 p.m. on March 15. One of the involved vehicles fled the scene.

 

Theft

  A homeless man reportedly stole two cans of soda from a business in the 600 block of North National Avenue just after 12:50 p.m. on March 15.

• A phone was reported stolen out of a vehicle in a parking lot in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 2:40 p.m. on March 17.



• Just before 3:30 p.m. on March 17, a caller reported a dirt bike was possibly stolen from the 400 block of Southwest 19th Street sometime within the last month.

 

Scam

• A phone scam was reported in the 100 block of Southeast 16th Street at 1:15 p.m. on March 15.

 

Suspicious circumstances

• Two subjects were reportedly “smoking something” from a glass pipe in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 1:30 p.m. on March 15.

• Possible phone harassment was reported in the 10 block of Southwest Fourth Street just after 5:35 p.m. on March 15.

• At 12:55 a.m. on March 17, a caller reported a red car “just drove by shooting pellets or Orbeez” in the 500 block of North Market Boulevard. Officers contacted a man in the area, who advised “he did not see anything.”

• “Suspicious circumstances” reported in the 200 block of Southwest 13th Street at approximately 5:40 a.m. on March 18 are under investigation.

 

Indecent exposure

• A man who was urinating on the sidewalk in the 1400 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 1:45 p.m. on March 15 was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for indecent exposure.

 

Juvenile problems

• At approximately 3:10 p.m. on March 15, a caller in the 200 block of Southwest 13th Street reported “‘the hoodlums’ are back out,” referring to a group of eight to 10 juveniles who were “rapping with swear words and climbing on the roof of the structure and shelter” on the property.

• At 3:40 p.m. on March 15, a caller in the 200 block of Southwest 13th Street reported a group of 20 juveniles was “yelling racial slurs at no one, just in general.”

• A caller reported her 13-year-old son was being bullied in the 500 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue just after 5:25 p.m. on March 15.

• A group of 10 to 12 juveniles was reportedly drinking Twisted Tea in the 200 block of Southwest 13th Street just after 5 p.m. on March 16. The juveniles denied drinking alcohol. 

 

Criminal trespass

• A suspected shoplifter was trespassed from a business in the 1700 block of North National Avenue at 4:35 p.m. on March 15.

• A male subject associated with a blue Chevy Tahoe was trespassed from a business in the 700 block of South Market Boulevard just after 4:35 p.m. on March 15.

• A woman was trespassed from a business in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 5:50 p.m. on March 15.

• A homeless man who was “screaming at the sky” at a business in the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue after “getting into one of (the business’s) trucks” was trespassed from the business just after 4:25 a.m. on March 16.

 

Assault

• A fourth-degree assault was reported in the 500 block of Southeast Hilltop Road just before 1:10 a.m. on March 16. The suspect was voluntarily committed for mental health treatment.

 

Disorderly conduct

• A disorderly man was reportedly “yelling and screaming (and) beating on (a) door” in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue just after 6:45 a.m. on March 16. He was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for disorderly conduct.

 

Malicious mischief

• At 11:35 a.m. on March 16, a caller reported “someone tore a hole in his roof” in the 800 block of Northwest Ohio Street.

• Possible vandalism to a 1985 Chevy S10 was reported in the 800 block of West Main Street just after 2:35 p.m. on March 16. The vehicle’s gas pedal was damaged, and fluid had been drained out of the vehicle.

 

Dispute

• A “family disturbance/dispute” reported in the 500 block of Northwest Pacific Avenue just after 2 p.m. on March 17 is under investigation.

 

FIRE AND EMS CALLS

• Between Friday morning and Monday morning, Lewis County 911 Communications logged approximately 54 illness-related calls, 18 injury-related calls, three Lifeline medical alerts, 21 fire-related calls, four vehicle accidents, 11 non-emergency service calls, one overdose, two suicide threats, one public assist request, one hazardous conditions report, two suspicious circumstances reports, two 911 hangups, and two other calls.

 

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of Monday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 161 inmates, including 148 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 119 were reported male and 29 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.

• As of Monday morning, the Chehalis Tribal Jail had a total system population of 25 inmates, including eight booked by the Centralia Police Department, 13 booked by the state Department of Corrections, one booked by the City of McCleary, one booked by the Lummi Nation, one booked by Chehalis Tribal Law Enforcement and one booked by Chehalis Tribal Court.
